Main Building

The heart of our Junior School campus brings together students in grades 1–5 in classrooms, collaboration spaces, and community.

Early Learning Center

Renovated and expanded in 2023, the Early Learning Center is a state-of-the-art facility for students in pre-k and kindergarten.

Gymnasium
A large indoor gymnasium or community hall with a basketball court, filled with people seated at tables and chairs, with various decorations and signage on the walls.

Our full-sized gym is where Junior School students build physical confidence, team spirit, and joyful movement every day.

Playgrounds

Rowe Hall
Rowe Hall

Rowe Hall anchors academic life at the Senior School. The building was renovated in 2006 and is LEED Gold certified.

Class of 1966 Memorial Hall Library
A cozy and inviting library space with bookshelves lining the walls, comfortable seating areas, and a balcony overlooking the main floor.

A dedicated hub for research and quiet focus, Memorial Hall was renovated in 2023 and is the main library space for the Senior School.

Glimcher Tech & Design Hub

The Glimcher is a modern hub opened in 2019, housing engineering and robotics courses, a fabrication space, café, and the Computer Science Department.

McIlroy Center for Science and Innovation

McIlroy opened in 2018 and is LEED Gold certified. It is outfitted with state-of-the-art, college-level equipment –including a scanning electron microscope.

Mellon Gates

The Thomas Alexander Mellon Gates mark the east entrance to the Upper School campus and honor the Mellon family, early patrons of Shady Side Academy.

McCune Dining Hall

Benedum Visual Arts Center

The BVAC houses the Visual Arts Department and includes studio, architecture, darkroom, glassworks, ceramics spaces, as well as a kiln. 

Bayard House

Hillman Center for Performing Arts

The Hillman Center features the 600-seat Richard E. Rauh Theater, the intimate 150-seat Peter J. Kountz black box, and the Mary Hillman Jennings Plaza.

Michael J. Farrell Stadium

Farrell Stadium, home to McKelvy Field, features a multipurpose turf field and grandstand seating that together create a premier venue for SSA athletics.

Curry Gymnasium

Alumni Pool

Treehouse
