Field
Expansive athletic field at the Junior School campus, offering an ideal backdrop for seasonal sports and outdoor learning.
Rowe Hall
Rowe Hall anchors academic life at the Senior School. The building was renovated in 2006 and is LEED Gold certified.
Class of 1966 Memorial Hall Library
A dedicated hub for research and quiet focus, Memorial Hall was renovated in 2023 and is the main library space for the Senior School.
Glimcher Tech & Design Hub
The Glimcher is a modern hub opened in 2019, housing engineering and robotics courses, a fabrication space, café, and the Computer Science Department.
McIlroy Center for Science and Innovation
McIlroy opened in 2018 and is LEED Gold certified. It is outfitted with state-of-the-art, college-level equipment –including a scanning electron microscope.
Mellon Gates
The Thomas Alexander Mellon Gates mark the east entrance to the Upper School campus and honor the Mellon family, early patrons of Shady Side Academy.

Health Center
The Health Center offers 24-hour care for Senior School students and boarders.
Morewood House
Morewood House is the main residential building for female boarding students.
McCune Dining Hall
McCune is the main dining facility for Senior School students and boarders.
Benedum Visual Arts Center
The BVAC houses the Visual Arts Department and includes studio, architecture, darkroom, glassworks, ceramics spaces, as well as a kiln.
Bayard House
Bayard House is home to several administrative departments including the Business, Alumni & Development, and Marketing & Communications Offices.
Hillman Center for Performing Arts
The Hillman Center features the 600-seat Richard E. Rauh Theater, the intimate 150-seat Peter J. Kountz black box, and the Mary Hillman Jennings Plaza.
Croft House
Croft House is the residential building where male boarding students reside.
Faculty Housing
On-campus housing provides comfortable living spaces for faculty and staff, enriching the fabric of daily campus life.

Farrell Stadium, home to McKelvy Field, features a multipurpose turf field and grandstand seating that together create a premier venue for SSA athletics.

Shady Side's oldest gymnasium, Curry Gym was renovated in 2020.
Mellon Gymnasium
SSA's newest gynasium, Mellon Gym houses indoor sports including basketball.
Alumni Pool
Alumni Pool offers a safe setting for swim lessons and team practices, helping students grow comfortable and capable in the water.
Wiegand Squash Courts
The Wiegand Courts offer a clean, focused space for squash training and competitive play.
Kassling Tennis Courts
The Kassling Courts offer six separate courts and home and away bleachers for spectators.
Lower Tennis Courts
The Lower Tennis Courts offer four separate courts and a practice setting for skill-building on campus.
Roy McKnight Hockey Center
The Roy McKnight Hockey Center provides a state-of-the-art arena featuring an NHL-sized ice surface.
Gene Deal Fields
The Gene Deal Fields features an artificial turf field lined for baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, and field hockey.
Far Fields
The Far Fields provide wide-open space for practices, games, and outdoor programming.
Rockwell Middle School
Rockwell Middle School, opened in 2026, houses students in grades 6–8 and features energy-efficient systems, a dedicated library, dining hall, and flexible classrooms.
Admissions Office
The Admissions Office welcomes interested students and their families to campus and guides them through the application process.
President's Office
Housed in Rockwell Middle School, the President’s Office includes the President and administrative staff who guide strategic leadership across the Academy.
Main Building
At Country Day School in Fox Chapel, young learners thrive in inspiring classrooms and a campus rooted in exploration and creativity.
Treehouse
Opened in 2018 and designed as an extension of Country Day School’s outdoor education program, this elevated classroom allows students to explore all subjects in a natural woodland setting.
