Learning That Moves With the World
Learning here doesn't stay behind a desk. Students spend whole weeks on Immersives—chasing a single question out into Pittsburgh and beyond. What do English literature and fly fishing have in common? What would Isaac Newton make of Kennywood? Our students find out.
Immersives Program at Shady Side Academy
What if school felt more like the real world? In our new Immersives program, students dove into a single topic--learning in start-ups, studios, city halls, hospitals, and neighborhoods across the region. No class schedules. No limits. Just bold, hands-on learning. This is how future leaders are made.
Known and Challenged
A child learns best when they feel known. Small classes and teachers who mentor—not lecture—mean your child is seen, understood, and pushed to grow. Happy and safe, yes. And also known, challenged, and growing. It's an education worth the investment, and we work to put it within reach for families across a range of circumstances.
One Shady Side
A child can grow up here—from a first day in pre-kindergarten to a last walk across the stage in twelfth grade. Four campuses, one community.
Our two Lower Schools—the Junior School and Country Day—each take children from pre-kindergarten through grade 5, so families on either side of the city have a home close by. From there, students come together at the Middle School for grades 6–8, and again at the Senior School for grades 9–12, where an optional boarding experience opens the community even wider.
A treehouse and Frick Park for the youngest. A boarding house and Immersives for the oldest. Four campuses, one Shady Side, the whole way through.
