The Rotary Club of Pittsburgh has honored Shady Side Academy senior Mike Pohl with its Student of Distinction Award for the month of December 2012.

The Rotary Club's motto is "Service above self." Serving as senior class president, winning the Fox Chapel Firefighter of the Year Award, leading the SSA Flag Club, assisting with the SSA Farm, and helping lead the football team to the WPIAL playoffs, Pohl epitomizes what the award stands for in many ways.

Pohl was honored at a Rotary Club luncheon held at the Omni William Penn Hotel on Dec. 5 with his parents in attendance.
