SSA Breaks Ground on Gene Deal Fields

Gene Deal Fields

Construction is officially underway at Shady Side Academy on the Gene Deal Fields, a transformative athletic facilities project that will honor the extraordinary legacy of longtime SSA coach and Director of Athletics Gene Deal. The celebratory groundbreaking photo op included Sara and David Scaife of the DSF Charitable Foundation, Board of Trustees Chair Jon Kamin '91, Academy President Bart Griffith '93, representatives from Strada LLC, SSA Director of Facilities Paul Francioni and of course, Gene Deal. SSA Alumni Gatherings

Alumni in the Chicago area will gather for a special event with President Bart Griffith '93, graciously hosted by Alison Fragale '93, on Monday, April 11, from 6-8 p.m., at the Fragale residence. For the safety of all guests, we ask that all attendees be vaccinated against COVID-19. To RSVP or if you have any questions, contact Betty Herrington by Friday, April 1. Junior School Third Grade State Fair
Students performed "My Country 'Tis of Thee" on the ukulele and displayed their State Floats, State Food Trucks and State Cookbooks for family and friends. Read more.

Five SSA Students Named 2022 Carson Scholars
Maya Leyzarovich was named a New 2022 Carson Scholar, while Smrithi Shyam, Benjamin Bischoff, Veronica Koval and Patrick Sippel were named Recognized 2022 Carson Scholars. Read more. 

 

Senior School Hosts Ukraine Teach-In With Former U.S. Diplomat
John McCaslin, a retired U.S. foreign service and commerce officer who was twice stationed in Russia, spoke about the history of Russia and Ukraine as well as  current events surrounding the war in Ukraine. Read more. 

 

Musician Craig Davis '90 Hosts Workshop for Senior School Jazz Combo
A professional jazz musician, alumnus Craig Davis '90 helped the Jazz Combo  polish its repertoire for the winter concert on March 8. Read more. 

 

Squash Teams Compete in U.S. High School Championships; Girls Finish in Third PlaceThe girls' team knocked off several higher-seeded teams en route to third place at the three-day national tournament. Read more. 

 

Middle School Winter Musical: Mary Poppins JR. 
Nineteen students in grades 6-8 appeared in the cast. Read more.
