SSA Ice Skating Party, Dec. 4 – Registration Closed Registration is now closed for the Academy-wide ice skating party on Saturday, Dec. 4 , as the event has reached maximum capacity as permitted by Schenley Ice Rink's COVID-19 safety protocols. Unfortunately, no walk-ins will be admitted. We look forward to seeing everyone who RSVP'd at the rink this Saturday! Admissions Visit Opportunities Current parents are our best ambassadors! Please share the following information with families you know who may be interested in a Shady Side Academy education. Holiday Cookie Shoppe, Dec. 13
It's time for the Parents' Association's annual Holiday Cookie Shoppe for faculty and staff! The event will take place on Monday, Dec. 13. We are asking for 37 volunteers to contribute three dozen of one flavor of cookies each, which will then be boxed and distributed to the faculty and staff. To participate, sign up and drop off the cookies on Monday, Dec. 13. There will be volunteers at each entrance to assist. If you send your cookies in on a tray and would like it back, please be sure to put your child's first and last name on the bottom of the tray. Winter Season Gathering, Dec. 16 On Thursday, Dec. 16 , at 6:30 p.m., we will gather as a community to celebrate the winter season. The event will be held outside on the Senior School campus. More information coming soon. Birthday Treats If you are sending in a birthday treat, please be sure to contact your child's homeroom teacher and school nurse Kelly Sample so that any allergy information can be considered. Play it Forward Toy Drive, Nov. 29-Dec. 15 The third grade is collecting new and gently used toys, books, sports equipment, video games and movies for the Play it Forward-Pittsburgh toy drive. See the flyer for more information. Holiday Cookie Shoppe, Dec. 16 It's time to prepare for the Parents' Association's annual Holiday Cookie Shoppe for faculty and staff on Thursday, Dec. 16. We are seeking monetary donations and volunteers to help the day of the event. To contribute or volunteer, please sign up. If you have any questions, contact Jonathan Brown. Parent Book Club The Junior School Parent Book Club meets monthly via Zoom to discuss fun fiction and engaging stories. Books are selected by the group based on shared interests. | Fall Play Tonight The Middle School Drama Dragons will present the fall play Dinner at Eight, Dead by Nine this evening, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m., in the Middle School cafetorium. Parent Walking Group Anyone interested in joining the Middle School Parent Walking Group is invited to show up Tuesdays at 9 a.m., on the Senior School track. Formal Dress Clothing Swap Families are encouraged to stop by the Middle School to pick up a blue blazer and a white button-down shirt or drop off formal dress clothing items that no longer fit. | Book Fair, Dec. 7-8 The Senior School Library will be hosting a Book Fair, Dec. 7-8, featuring a diverse selection of fiction, nonfiction and children's books. The sale will be held in the library from 8:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Parents, faculty and staff will be able to purchase books with a credit card, while students can charge purchases to a student account. If you do not want your student to charge the student account, fill out this form. Parents are welcome to come to the sale and browse with students at the end of the school day. Holiday Choir & Strings Concert, Dec. 8 The Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and String Orchestra will perform at the annual Winter Concert on Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m., in Memorial Hall. All are welcome to attend. Parent Book Club, Dec. 9 The next parent book club meeting is Thursday, Dec. 9, at noon. Senior School Librarian Lindsey Myers will be the guest host, and has selected Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. See the Oct. 26 email for the Zoom link. Virtual Food Drive, Dec. 9-18 The Service Learning Club is sponsoring a Virtual Food Drive from Dec 9-18. For each dollar donated, the Food Bank can provide up to five meals for those who are food insecure in our greater Pittsburgh community. Please help us reach our goal of $2,500 by donating today! Jazz Combo Performing in Market Square, Dec. 12 The Jazz Combo will perform at the 2021 Peoples Gas Holiday Market in Market Square on Dec. 12 from 2:30-3 p.m. The combo includes Andy Marous, Karen Linares Mendoza, Angela Xue, Sloane Simon, Ben Thomas and Caden Green. Holiday Band Concert, Dec. 13 The Holiday Band Concert will be Monday, Dec. 13 , from 10-10:30 a.m., during Community Assembly. Parents are welcome to attend. The back row of the lower section of the Richard E. Rauh Theater, Hillman Center, will be reserved for parent seating. Holiday Cookie Shoppe, Dec. 15 To show appreciation for Senior School faculty and staff during this holiday season, the Holiday Cookie Shoppe is back and will take place Wednesday, Dec. 15. We are asking for donations of 5-6 dozen of one kind of cookies or pastries, plated and ready for display. We are also looking for volunteers to help with set up and throughout the event. Please sign up to donate and/or volunteer. Delivery times for donations are during afternoon pick up on Tuesday, Dec. 14 or morning drop off on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Quotes are a unique opportunity for seniors to thank those who impacted their lives, share insights/memories and leave a legacy. Quotes should be less than 200 words, written in full sentences with no abbreviations and with proper punctuation. No references to drugs, alcohol, cheating, threats or inappropriate behavior.
