Dear Senior School Families,
Shady Side Academy's Athletic Department is excited to announce that in accordance with PIAA and state guidelines, Senior School fall sports teams may begin summer workouts in small groups at Michael J. Farrell Stadium on July 1, 2020. It has been 109 days since we last had workouts, practices and games at SSA, and members of the Athletic Department are anxiously awaiting your return!
We will continue to follow all PIAA and WPIAL rules for summer activities. Please click here to read the SSA Summer Workouts COVID-19 Policies and Procedures, which includes a waiver form that all students and parents must sign in order to participate in summer conditioning.
Strength and Conditioning Coach Chuck DiNardo has been working with our fall head coaches to formulate a plan for summer workouts. Fall athletes will receive a letter from a coach with details on dates and times of workouts if they haven't already. If you do not receive information from a coach or think you may be signed up for the wrong sport, please email any of us in the Athletics Department office and we will help you:
Please note that all summer conditioning is optional. If you are not feeling well, please stay home! Coaches may post or distribute suggested videos of drills and skills for summer conditioning workouts.
The Fitness Center will also begin to open for fall sports team athletes. Mr. DiNardo will contact you with a schedule, and you will be able to sign up for a specific time slot. You are responsible for wiping down any equipment you use, and the Fitness Center will be cleaned between time slots, so please mind your allotted time. You must read the attached COVID-19 policies and procedures and sign the waiver in order to use the Fitness Center.
Parents should drop off students in front of the stadium and remain in their car. Students who drive should park in the lower tennis court lot. Upon arrival, students must enter the home field side of the stadium to have their temperature checked and be asked COVID-19 screening questions; parents dropping off should wait in their car until the screening is complete. Students who fail the first temperature check will have it rechecked. If the student fails the recheck as well, they must go home. If a parent is not available to take the student home, they will be asked to wait on the Curry Gym patio wearing an N95 mask until they can be picked up.
After passing the screening, students should proceed to the field through the gate at the bottom of the bleachers and place all of their belongings in a six-foot hoop on the sidelines. There will be no sharing of personal items or equipment. You should bring your own mask and are required to wear it unless you are exercising. There will be no water coolers on the sideline, and you must bring your own water bottle. Stadium bathrooms will be open and cleaned between sessions. Only one person may use the restroom at a time, and you must sanitize your hands on your way to and from the bathroom. Locker rooms cannot be used.
Please leave the facility immediately after workouts. When practice is over, exit the field by the walk next to the golf course and head straight to your car or wait for your parents to pick you up on the sidewalk in front of Mellon Gym, standing on every other cement space (leaving one space between each student). Please remember social distancing rules at all times.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during these challenging times. We look forward to seeing you very soon.
Stay safe and keep others safe!
