Limited Reopening of Athletic Facilities June 15 With Gov. Wolf moving Allegheny County into the Green Phase of reopening, Shady Side Academy will be reopening some of its campus athletic facilities to the SSA community on a limited basis, as outlined below.
Outdoor grass fields, tennis courts, playgrounds and walking paths on all four campuses will reopen for recreational use on Monday, June 15. Community members using these facilities must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing when interacting with others.
The Michael J. Farrell Stadium field and track at the Senior School will remain closed until Wednesday, July 1. No organized athletic team activities, including captain's practices, may be held until this date, as mandated by the WPIAL.
Due to ongoing summer maintenance work, the following athletic facilities on the Senior School campus will remain closed: Curry Gym, Mellon Gym, Alumni Pool, Wiegand Squash Courts and Roy McKnight Hockey Center.
After July 1, fall coaches of Senior School athletic teams may lead organized, small group team activities in the Fitness Center, provided strict observance of CDC guidelines. Students may not use the Fitness Center outside of these scheduled, supervised team activities.
