Dear Shady Side Families,
With in-person summer camps and programs canceled across the country, parents everywhere are wondering how to keep kids engaged and learning this summer, especially on the heels of a spring where so many formative educational experiences took on a different shape than anticipated.
Therefore, I am excited to announce the launch of a brand-new slate of low-cost, two-week summer review classes designed exclusively for current and newly enrolled Shady Side students. Summer Refresh is a new virtual program providing SSA students entering grades 1-12 the opportunity to review and solidify foundational concepts in language arts, math, and study skills in preparation for the 2020-2021 school year. The program is structured to meet the unique needs of students at each division. SSA teachers will engage students through both synchronous and asynchronous activities, and small class sizes will enable teachers to be responsive to each student's needs.
Grade-specific classes are offered in language arts and math for SSA students entering grades 1-9, and in humanities and quantitative reasoning for SSA students entering grades 10-12. Classes are also offered to help students entering grades 7-12 improve their overall learning and study skills. Each class is only $30 and will meet for two weeks in July, with two sessions offered. Please note that Summer Refresh classes are different from the traditional Summer School classes offered through SSA Summer. Summer Refresh offers low-cost, two-week review classes exclusively for SSA students, while Summer School offers full-cost, six-week courses for students from any school who desire a deeper exploration of subject-area content. Information on SSA Summer's virtual classes and camps can be found here.
Should Summer Refresh meet a need for your child or family, I hope you will give this innovative new program serious consideration.
Best,
