Hillman Performing Arts Series: Tami Lee Hughes: The Legacy Show, Feb. 15 The Legacy Show is a multimedia concert celebrating African-American composers, performed by violinist Tami Lee Hughes and pianist Ellen Sommer. The program features classical music infused with spirituals, blues, gospel, hip-hop and jazz, plus poetry and visual media. Join us on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard E. Spring Training Baseball Clinic SSA's spring training baseball clinic teaches kids ages 8-13 the fundamentals of the game. The clinic includes four sessions: Friday, Feb. 28, Saturday, Feb. 29, Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7. The clinic will be led by two former MLB players, SSA Head Varsity Baseball Coach Jordan Steranka and SSA Varsity Pitching Coach Chris Peters, as well as other SSA assistant coaches and select varsity players. Country Day School Reminders Dress-Down Day, Feb. 14 We will have a dress-down day on Friday, Feb. 14, to celebrate Valentine's Day. Students may wear jeans, tennis shoes and any shirt that is red, pink, purple or white, or one that is Valentine's Day-themed. Optional Conference Day and ASA Programming, Feb. 21 Optional Conference Day will take place on Friday, Feb. 21. If you would like to schedule a conference with your child's teacher, please contact Brenda Hafner by Friday, Feb. 14. For parents needing child care for the day, ASA is offering a trip to the Carnegie Science Center. Register online by Friday, Feb. 14. Family Skate, Feb. 22 Please join us for an afternoon of ice skating and hot chocolate at the McKnight Hockey Center on the Senior School campus on Saturday, Feb. 22, from noon-2:30 p.m. Rentals are not available, so please bring your own skates. The main office has some skates to loan; see the Feb. 4 email for sizes available. Helmets are required (bike and ski helmets are OK.) This is not a drop-off event. Spring Show Date Change The spring show date has been changed to Thursday, May 21, to ease some scheduling conflicts. This is the final performance of the year and will take place at the Hillman Center on the Senior School campus. While it features our fifth grade students, all of the students will participate.

Lynne Voelp Reed Day, Mar. 6 Lynne Voelp Reed Day (named to honor a former teacher) is celebrated with a carnival in the gym and a visit from the Senior School "Lifers." Together, the Lifers, Parents' Association, parent volunteers and teachers will put together a carnival on Friday, March 6. Conference Day, March 5 Winter parent/teacher/student conferences are on Thursday, March 5. Please take a moment at your earliest convenience to set up your appointment with your child's advisor through Mrs. Fisher by email or by calling 412-968-3100. The 20-minute slots are from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and start on the half hour.
Food Drive Donations Due Feb. 14 and Dress-Down Day The Breakfast Food Drive for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank ends Friday, Feb. 14, which is a dress-down day. Some suggested items include: healthy whole grain cereals, oatmeal and other hot cereals, peanut butter, canned fruits packed in juice, nuts, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, pancake mix, waffle mix and muffin mix. Please donate only non-perishable items, no glass containers. Thank you for helping our students see beyond our school and community walls to help those who are in need.
PA Trip to Splash Lagoon, Feb. 21 The Parents' Association trip to Splash Lagoon in Erie, Pa., is on Friday, Feb. 21, for those who purchased tickets. Buses will transport students from the Middle School at 8 a.m. and return at 7 p.m. The Splash Lagoon waiver forms must be completed and sent with your child on the day of the trip.
College Athletic Recruiting Information Session, Feb. 27 The SSA Athletic Department is proud to partner with the College Counseling Office to host an information session about the college athletic recruiting process on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m., in Rauh Theater, Senior School campus. Eighth grade families are invited to attend. We will be joined by college coaches and athletics staff to discuss an overview of the athletic recruiting process. RSVP online.

Summer School Registration for Grades 9-12 Is Open Information on 2020 high school-level Summer School courses is now available on our website, and course registration is open. For-credit courses are offered in art, computer science, math and science, plus non-credit courses in college essay writing and SAT/ACT test prep. Learn more.
Term II Exam Days, Feb. 19-20 Term II Exam Days will occur on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20. Form-based programming and exams will occur from 8:15-10:35 a.m. and classes from 10:40 a.m.–3 p.m. Athletics will occur as usual. Not every term course has an exam, and yearlong classes do not have exams. Students should check with their teacher about whether they have an exam or final project. LEAD@SSA Conference, Feb. 21 Students are encouraged to register for LEAD@SSA, which will be held Friday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This is an annual, student-led conference focused on leadership at SSA. There will be a panel discussion with students, faculty and local community leaders, plus multiple student-led workshops. The day is open to all students, but any student who hopes to serve in a leadership capacity at should plan to attend. Download the flyer for registration information.
PSAT 10 Administered to Sophomores, Feb. 24 Sophomores will take the PSAT 10 in Curry Gym (or an otherwise designated location) on Monday, Feb. 24. Students are encouraged to arrive by 7:45 a.m. as testing will begin promptly at 8 a.m. Students must bring wooden No. 2 pencils and a College Board-approved calculator. Test takers in Curry Gym should be finished by noon. Download the Official Student Guide for information about PSAT 10, what to bring on test day, and practice questions.
