Recaps & Good News Oct. 17, 2019
Dear SSA Community,
Last Saturday evening, with a glorious sun setting along the Senior School's vivid autumnal tree line, a record-setting crowd of nearly 250 cross-generational alumni gathered in high spirits on the Mary Hillman Jennings Plaza. Reconnected with old friends and flooded with warm memories of their Shady Side experience, all attendees proclaimed pride in our school's past and, more importantly, great excitement and hope for our current students and the Academy's future.
Thanks to all those who made the weekend such a success – students, parents, faculty, and alums all contributing to what was the most highly attended Homecoming in years. I also want to give special thanks to our alumni and development team, facilities crew, and campus security guards and officers for their role in planning and executing such a memorable weekend.
Finally, congratulations to our football players and coaches for Saturday's homecoming win, a victory that ensures them a playoff spot and represents their 15th win in the last 17 games they've played, dating back to last season. We are looking forward to a strong finish to the season for all of our fall athletic teams!
What a moment this is for Shady Side! Newly installed as president, I am inspired to continue working with all of you in the years ahead. We will think big, act with concern for others, and lead in a way that leaves our school and communities better than we found them.
Glory to Shady Side!
All the best,
Bart Griffith '93
