Middle School Student Leads Donation Drive for Refugees in Pittsburgh

Deven Nahata delivering donations to Hello NeighborLast winter, as an eighth grader at SSA Middle School, Deven Nahata organized a donation drive to support Hello Neighbor, a nonprofit organization founded by SSA alumna Sloane (Berrent) Davidson '97 that supports resettled refugees in Pittsburgh. From Feb. 25 through March 10, Middle School families were asked to donate toiletries and household goods, and a dress-down day was held on March 6 to raise money to supplement the drive.

Due to COVID-19, Nahata was not able to deliver the many boxes of donations he had collected to Hello Neighbor's offices until this summer. The staff at Hello Neighbor was thrilled with the amount of donations and indicated how helpful it would be for the refugee families they serve.

Congratulations, Deven, and thank you to all of the Middle School students and families who participated in the drive to support our neighbors in need!
