ICU Nurse Emily (Modoono) Sadler '97 Reflects on Treating COVID-19 Patients

Emily (Modoono) Sadler '97 is a registered nurse in the Cleveland, Ohio area. She works in the intensive care unit at a community hospital where she sees many patients with COVID-19, many of whom are transferred to the ICU and are only able to see loved ones via video calls. Sadler and her coworkers are acting as family for the patients during this difficult time.

"In these times we are making sure the patients are comfortable," she says. "In our PPE, we sit at their bedside and hold their hand, and reassure them it is OK to let go after struggling for so long. We cry as their family would because we witness their strength, courage and how hard they have fought to beat this virus."

Sadler says these days and nights are very difficult.

"We won't give up and we will continue to find ways to fight and defeat this disease. Thank you to all of the healthcare workers out there. I know what you have been going through and want you to know that I appreciate all of you and your efforts in winning this battle," Sadler says.
