FIELD HOCKEY WINS WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

WPIAL Field Hockey Champions!

The Shady Side Academy girls field hockey team defeated Ellis, 1-0, to win the WPIAL Class 1A Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Fox Chapel High School.

Sophomore Annabel Kuhn scored the game-winning goal early in the second half, and senior Clara McCormick earned the shutout in goal. SSA remains undefeated on the season at 8-0.

It marks SSA's 15th WPIAL title overall and its first since 2013. Ellis won the last four titles, and the two rivals combined have won the last 16 titles.

With the win, SSA advances to the PIAA Class 1A Field Hockey Championship and will face Newport in the PIAA first round on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Latrobe High School.

Congratulations to Head Coach Betsy Gorse and the entire team on their championship season! Good luck in the state playoffs!
