BOYS SOCCER WINS SECOND STRAIGHT WPIAL TITLE

On Saturday, Nov. 3, the Shady Side Academy boys' soccer team upset Quaker Valley, 2-1, in the WPIAL Class 2A finals at Highmark Stadium, earning the team its second straight WPIAL title.

Senior Kenny Shergill scored with just 37 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 1-1 and force overtime. After neither team scored in two 15-minute overtimes, it came down to penalty kicks. SSA freshman Sam Farner, senior Max Farner and sophomore Gunnar Pipitone all scored on their PK attempts, while senior goalie Bruce David stopped all three of Quaker Valley's PKs. Both David and sophomore Zach Conti made several difficult saves in goal in the win.

Shady Side (12-6-1) will face District 5 champion Bedford (14-3) in the first round of the PIAA 2A Boys' Soccer Championship on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Moon Area High School at 7 p.m.

Congratulations to Head Coach Ed Ellsworth and the team on winning the WPIAL Class AA Title!
