Preseason for football and golf begins Monday, August 5. Preseason for all other fall sports begins Monday, August 12. Some fall teams have optional summer practices and workouts. See below for team-by-team summer and preseason information, and information on summer baseline concussion testing.

CHEERLEADING
No organized summer activities. Season officially begins with camp on Monday, August 12. Team to meet in Curry Gym each day.

FOOTBALL
All summer activities before August 5 are entirely optional:
- Summer workouts are held Monday through Thursday from 5-8 p.m., from June 17-July 25 at the SSA Stadium. Some team activities, such as 7-on-7 passing and the Steelers 11-On event, may occur on different dates or times.
- Off days are built into the summer calendar for vacations, college visits, and time with family: June 9-15, July 4 , and July 28-August 3.
The season begins Monday, August 5:
- Heat acclimatization is required by the PIAA before the start of camp and will take place the week of August 5-9 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Players must have a completed PIAA physical exam form on file in Magnus Health before starting heat acclimatization. Players who do not attend these mandatory sessions will be ineligible to participate in the first scrimmage by PIAA rule.
- Team camp will begin Monday, August 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and conclude with a scrimmage against Westinghouse on Saturday, August 17, at 10 a.m. at SSA.

BOYS GOLF
No organized summer activities. The season begins Monday, August 5, with tryouts at Pittsburgh National Golf Course at 8:30 p.m. Golfers should report to Pittsburgh National between 7:45-8 a.m. to warm up and be placed into groups for the tryout.. GIRLS GOLF
No organized summer activities. Tryouts will be held Wednesday, August 7 at Pittsburgh National Golf Course. Contact Head Coach Betsy Thompson for more information.
BOYS SOCCER
Optional summer practices will be held every Tuesday and Thursday beginning Thursday, June 13. Players will have access to the weight room from noon-1 p.m. before practice for strength and conditioning, and practice will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on SSA's Gene Deal Fields. GIRLS SOCCER
Optional summer conditioning with Coach DiNardo will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 2-3:15 p.m. beginning Tuesday, June 18. Soccer skills will follow from 3:15-4:15 p.m. Please meet in the fitness center or on the stadium field pending weather. Sessions will conclude on Thursday, July 25.

GIRLS TENNIS

Summer Baseline Concussion Testing
Shady Side Academy students in grades 7-12 are required to complete baseline concussion testing every two years and prior to participating in athletics. RETURNING students entering grades 7, 9, or 11 and NEW students entering grades 7-12 must complete the testing at SSA this summer.
Sway baseline concussion testing will be offered by appointment on the Senior School campus in June and July.
To register and prepare for the testing, please sign up for an open slot.
- Testing is by appointment only; no drop-ins allowed.
- For morning time slots (9-11 am) please meet at the Roy McKnight Hockey Center lobby. For evening time slots please meet at the Mellon Gymnasium Athletic Training Room (2nd floor, near basketball court).
- If you are unable to make one of these dates and times at the link above, you must email an athletic trainer to set up an alternate testing plan.
- Have your child download the Sway Medical app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on their mobile phone or tablet and bring it to the test. You do not need to set up an account or sign in to the app in advance. Tablets will be available for students who do not have their own device.
