Kindergarten students at Country Day School brought creativity, collaboration, and global learning to life through this year’s Kindergarten Homes project. Now in its third year, the beloved interdisciplinary experience invites students to explore homes from around the world while developing research, design, and presentation skills along the way.

Guided by CDS librarian and STEM teacher Mrs. Courtney Anderson, students used research tools to learn about their selected homes before sketching blueprints and constructing detailed models from recyclable materials.

The excitement truly began on “Groundbreaking Day,” on Wednesday, April 1, when families, faculty, specialists, and volunteers joined classrooms transformed into bustling construction zones as students started building their homes. Throughout the three-week process, third grade buddies partnered with kindergarteners, led by teachers Brenna Halbedl, Alison Kitchin, Bethany Knicely P'37, and Kelly McCleary, to assist with research, crafting, and digital presentations created in the digital tool Book Creator.

The project culminated in a joyful showcase on Tuesday, April 28, featuring student-built homes and musical performances led by Music and Theatre Teacher Chloe Torrence, with accompaniment from third grade studets on ukuleles. Together, the showcase celebrated imagination, community, and the many ways we define home.
