Ten Seniors Win Fox Chapel Rotary Club Awards
The Rotary Club of Fox Chapel Area honored 10 Shady Side Academy graduating seniors at a ceremony on Wednesday, May 25.
Karen Linares Mendoza received the $2,000 Service Above Self Scholarship, given for excellence in community service. Linares Mendoza plans to attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall.
Nine other seniors were recognized with $200 awards for academic achievement in each of the academic disciplines:
- Performing Arts/Theater: Gloria Mancilla-Balog
- Visual Arts: Breonna Greene
- Music: Angela Xue
- Computer Science: Logan Taylor
- English: Charlotte Bump
- History: Maura Offstein
- Math: Ganesh Pennathur
- Science: Jaidan Fahrny
- World Languages: Nylah Trabulsi
Senior School history teacher Rachel McCool, Senior School Head Trixie Sabundayo and SSA President Bart Griffith '93 accompanied the students to the awards ceremony, which was organized in partnership with former SSA faculty member and Fox Chapel Rotarian Bill McConnel.
