Sophomore Named to PMEA District 1 Honors String Orchestra
Chance Handel

Shady Side Academy sophomore cellist Chance Handel has been selected to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Honors String Orchestra Festival, held at Fox Chapel Area High School on Nov. 19-20. Handel ranked third in the cello section after the orchestra auditions, which were held Monday, Sept. 19, and attracted hundreds of high school musicians from five counties in Western PA.

Handel is a member of the Senior School String Orchestra under the direction of Jeff Gross. He is also a member of the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra tis season after serving as the principal and assistant principal cellist in the TRYPO Symphonette in 2021-2022.

PMEA is a statewide nonprofit organization of more than 5,000 members, dedicated to promoting the musical development of all Pennsylvanians. The organization promotes and supports quality music education, learning and performance as well as promoting and supporting music education in schools and communities.
