Shady Side Academy alumnus and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Skyy Moore '19 wrote a storybook ending to his rookie season in the National Football League, scoring his first career NFL touchdown on a pivotal fourth-quarter drive to help the Chiefs defeat the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, Feb. 12.

The Chiefs were up 28-27 with 9:26 remaining in the fourth quarter facing third and goal at the 4-yard line, when Chiefs' QB Patrick Mahomes found Moore wide open to his left and the rookie galloped into the end zone and erupted in a joyous celebration with his teammates. 

It was the second consecutive game that featured a clutch play by Moore, whose punt return in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship game set up the Chiefs' game-winning field goal, cementing their spot in the Super Bowl.

On Sunday, Moore became the first SSA alum to be an active player in a Super Bowl, to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl and to win a Super Bowl championship. Moore is just the fourth player from the WPIAL or City League to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl in the last 40 years, joining Woodland Hills’ Rob Gronkowski, Aliquippa’s Ty Law and Allderdice’s Curtis Martin.

In addition to Moore, there were two other lesser known Shady Side Academy connections in Super Bowl LVII. Fox Sports sideline reporter Tom Rinaldi taught English at SSA Senior School from 1988-1990 before embarking on his career as an Emmy Award-winning sports journalist. And SSA President Bart Griffith '93 coached Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker in high school on the freshman football team at Westminster Schools in Atlanta.
