Thirteen Shady Side Academy Senior School students attended a Black Male Leadership Summit at Fox Chapel Area High School on Thursday, Jan. 19.
The lunchtime program was curated by members of the FCAHS Black Student Union in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Its goal was to build students' awareness of a broad array of educational and career opportunities, and to support and foster Black leadership in our schools. Panelists included 15 Black male leaders and college students in a variety of fields, including art, business, education, government, law, medicine, social services, sports and more.
SSA students attending the summit included seniors Madison Council and Na’Khiya Ellis, juniors Ahniya Anthony, Isaiah Beckham, Eddie DeBruce, Deacon Durham, Ty Gilliard, TJ Grate, Nate Mallory and Jermaine Taylor, and freshmen Ahmeena Anthony, Karis Thomas and Cameron Mallory. The students were accompanied by Senior School math teacher Justin Jackson-Strong and SSA Chief Equity, Inclusion and Community Relations Officer Lillian Grate.
Thank you to our friends at Fox Chapel Area High School for welcoming our students to this meaningful program!
