Physics and Engineering Students Design and Build Independent Projects

Each year, in Shady Side Academy Senior School's Physics II (Calculus) and Principles of Engineering courses, Dr. Scott Peterson challenges students to design and build their own projects. Students are given the freedom to create anything that interests them, which allows them to get excited and stretch their imaginations. Students use the cutting-edge equipment in the fabrication lab of the Senior School's Glimcher Tech & Design Hub to bring their designs to life.

Students presented their fall term projects in class the week of November 14. Some of the projects included a scooter, a camera tripod head mount, an impossible table (tensegrity table), a pitching machine, a ballista, a compound bow, a Jacob’s ladder, a floating arm trebuchet, a hydraulic fruit slicer, a marble coaster, a VR headset, a go-kart and an automated chessboard.

Congratulations to all of our student inventors!
