Niche, the leading platform connecting students and families with schools and colleges, has released its 2023 Best Schools rankings, and Shady Side Academy maintained its No. 1 ranking on its list of the Best Private K-12 Schools in the Pittsburgh Area.

Shady Side also held on to its No. 1 ranking in the Pittsburgh Area in the Best Private High Schools, Best College Prep Private High Schools, Best Boarding High Schools, and Best High Schools for STEM categories. Shady Side is also still the top-rated independent school in the Best High Schools for Athletes in the Pittsburgh Area category, coming in at No. 3 overall behind North Allegheny and Central Catholic. SSA was also ranked No. 3 in the Most Diverse Private High Schools category. Now in its ninth year, the Niche rankings include updated data for 92,743 public schools, 30,112 private schools, and 11,820 school districts nationwide. Unlike traditional rankings, which rely almost exclusively on metrics like test scores and academic performance, Niche's rankings combine user input – ratings from current students, alumni and parents – with quantitative data from sources like the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities, extracurricular activity opportunities, and more.
