Junior School Celebrates Fifth Annual International Fair

Shady Side Academy Junior School experienced an around-the-world tour during the week of March 6-10.

To kick off the week, SPK parent Shikha Gupta, her daughter and friends performed a Bollywood-style dance during all-school assembly on Monday morning, March 6. After the performance, the entire school joined in on the fun by learning and performing a dance together.

On Friday, March 11, the Junior School celebrated its Fifth Annual International Fair, where students learned about the diversity of cultures within our own school community. Parents, grandparents and special friends volunteered to share their home countries and family heritage through 18 different "nationality rooms" located around the school. Countries included Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Ghana, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, South Korea and Turkey. Students "flew around the world" with their passports, touring the rooms to learn about each country and its culture through food, stories, music and games.

Later on Friday evening, families were invited back to the Junior School for an International Pot Luck Dinner that featured homemade delicious foods from around the world.

Thank you to all of the families who volunteered to share their cultural heritage with our students and to all of the teachers and staff for their hard work!
