On Monday, December 9, students in Pam Boehm's Modern Social Justice class had the unique opportunity to spend the day immersed in art and activism at the studio of Sarika Goulatia P'25,'27, a Shady Side Academy parent and accomplished artist. The group, including Kabir C. ’24, Christo K. ’24, Orion K. ’24, Gray M. ’24, Makiyah M. ’24, Ava O. ’25, and Aidan P. ’24, explored how art can serve as a powerful medium for addressing social justice issues.
During the visit, Goulatia shared her work and ongoing project, which invites community members to reflect on global injustices and envision pathways toward understanding and peace through artistic expression. Inspired by her vision, the students participated in a "healing workshop," channeling their hopes for justice and unity into their own creations.
The student-made pieces will contribute to a future exhibit, showcasing the collective efforts of individuals striving for a more equitable world. The day provided a meaningful intersection of art, advocacy, and education, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.
