Creating Art by Drawing Inspiration from Icons of the Past
Kindergarten Art Show

The Junior School hosted its sixth annual Kindergarten Art Show at the Senior School's Benedum Visual Arts Center (BVAC) on Thursday, May 2. Kindergarten students, families, and teachers enjoyed a special evening reception in the BVAC gallery, which showcased hundreds of student art pieces.

Throughout the year, the kindergarten students learned about famous artists and their iconic styles including Keith Haring, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, Alma Thomas, and Vincent Van Gogh. The students were then challenged to engage in real-world learning as they applied what they had learned to create their own pieces inspired by the famous artists’ styles.

As an extension of the artist study this year, Art teacher Kelly Bellini had the students create clay sunflowers inspired by Van Gogh that were also displayed in the show.
