In response to increased enrollment and an ongoing commitment to provide exceptional learning environments, Shady Side Academy is thrilled to reveal a significant step forward in enhancing its educational facilities at the Country Day School campus.
After a year-long study with expert consultants, CDS is set to undertake a comprehensive $2 million renovation this summer. “This ambitious project will create four new classrooms within the existing footprint of the Country Day building, promising to enrich the learning experience with improved natural lighting, enhanced functionality, and an inspiring nature-themed design,” said Academy President Bart Griffith ’93.
“The renovation goes beyond classroom expansion. It includes the construction of several new offices and additional restrooms, along with significant upgrades to lighting, emergency management systems, the lunchroom, and serving areas. We are looking forward to these improvements bolstering the safety and comfort of both students and staff,” added Dr. Jen Asmonga, Head of Lower Schools.
A key insight of the facility study was the discovery of underused spaces within the existing structure. With the expertise of skilled architects, these areas are being transformed to optimize the floor plan and significantly increase classroom capacity at Country Day. This strategic utilization of space will also eliminate the need for the temporary structures known as the “Bulldog Bungalows.” The renovations are expected to be completed by fall 2024, marking a new chapter in the Country Day experience.
