Shady Side Academy’s Senior School athletic teams finished out their winter 2023-2024 seasons. Below are summaries of each team’s successes this year.
Boys' Varsity Basketball
Varsity Boys' Basketball had a very successful season, finishing with an overall record of 18-9. The team finished second in the section and was the number three seed in the WPIAL playoffs, eventually ending their season in the quarter-finals against Burrell. The team also won two consolation games to earn a spot in the PIAA tournament. Senior and Captain Eli T. was named team MVP and was also voted best player in the section and third team WPIAL. He finished his high school career with 1700+ points and is one of the all-time leading scorers at SSA.
Girls' Varsity Basketball
Varsity Girls' Basketball finished their 2024 season with an impressive 26-3 record. The team went on to become WPIAL 3A Champions. Team MVPs Maggie S. and Karis T. also earned All Section recognition.
Girls' Prep Ice Hockey
Girls' Prep Ice Hockey overcame several challenges to finish their 2024 season 14-6-2. This year’s seniors ended their career with a huge tournament win in overtime. Team Captain Annabel O. was named team MVP.
Girls' Squash
Girls Squash finished their 2023-2024 season with a record of 7-8 and 56th in the country – the highest ranking the program has ever achieved. They also competed in Division IV at nationals for the first time ever.
Boys' Swimming
Boys' Swimming had their most successful season to date with 10 wins and only 1 loss throughout the dual meet season. The team finished in the Top 5 at the WPIAL Championships. All three relays qualified for the PIAA State Championships, with the two Free Relays earning an All-State Honorable Mention and two individuals making it to the finals in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle events at the PIAA meet.
Girls' Swimming
Girls' Swimming had a successful 2023-2024 season, ending with an overall 6-5 record. In addition to breaking multiple school records, the team had an individual PIAA runner-up in multiple events and two relays that finished the season with All-State Honorable Mention honors. The team also had its first competitive diver contribute and qualify for WPIALs in over 15 years.
