Bulldogs Spring 2024 Sports Season Recaps

Shady Side Academy’s Senior School athletic teams finished out their spring 2024 seasons. Below are summaries of each team’s successes this year. 

Varsity Baseball

Varsity Baseball had a very successful season. Led by senior captains Jonah S. and Matt L., the team finished with an overall record of 18-9 and as WPIAL team qualifiers. 

Varsity Softball 

The Varsity Softball team ended their season with a 3-11 record and finished on a high note, winning two of their final three games. 

Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse

The Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse team finished their season with a 13-7 record. The team went undefeated in the WPIAL conference through the regular season and won their section. The team also won the MSLA B Bracket tournament. They had many award winners this year including: 

  • Junior Seamus R. – All-Section, All-WPIAL, All-American, 2nd Team All-MSLA, and WPIAL Player of the Year
  • Junior James R. – All-Section, All-WPIAL, All-American, 1st Team All-MSLA 
  • Junior Ben M. – All-Section, All-WPIAL, All-American, 2nd team All-MSLA
  • Senior Dylan N. – All-Section and All-WPIAL
  • Senior Nick A. – All-Section and Honorable Mention All-MSLA
  • Junior Emmerich B. – Honorable Mention All-MSLA
  • Junior Lars T. – Honorable Mention All-MSLA

Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse 

Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse finished their 2024 season with a winning record of 12-5. The team had several award winners this year including: 

  • Senior, Team Captain, and Team MVP Sydney B. – All-WPIAL, 1st Team All-Section
  • Senior Rachel J. – All-WPIAL, 1st Team All-Section
  • Junior, Team Captain Elsa B. – 1st Team All-Section
  • Junior Neely H. – 2nd Team All-Section
  • Sophomore Clarke W. – 2nd Team All-Section
  • Junior Mary B.B. – Honorable Mention All-Section
  • Junior Alayna D. – Honorable Mention All-Section

Boys’ Varsity Tennis 

The Boys’ Varsity Tennis team finished their season with an overall 7-5 record. The team advanced two players to WPIAL Singles and two teams to WPIAL doubles. 

Girls’ Varsity Track & Field 

The Girls’ Varsity Track & Field team finished their season with an impressive 8-3 record, finishing second in the section and going on to compete in the WPIAL Team semi-finals. The team also had success at WPIAL Individual Championships: 

  • Discus: Sophomore Aurora C. finished in 8th place
  • 1600m Run: Freshman Sofia P. took 10th place; Freshman Charlotte B. took 4th place; and Senior Chelsea H. took 1st place (Charlotte and Chelsea qualified for the PIAA Championships) 
  • 3200m Run: Chelsea also took 1st place (Qualifying for the PIAA Championships) 
  • 4x400m Relay: Sophomores Ella V.N. and Sarah K., and Sofia P. and Charlotte B. took 7th place 
  • 4x800m relay: Ella V.N., Sofia P., Charlotte B., and Chelsea H. finished in 1st place (Qualifying for the PIAA Championships) 

Sophomore Maria R., Junior Reese R., and Sophomore Rhyley B. also competed at the WPIAL Individual Championships.

At the PIAA Championships, Chelsea H. took 1st place in the 3200m run with a time of 10:37.32, setting a new school record. She also took 3rd place in the 1600m run. Finally, the team of Ella V.N., Charlotte B., Sarah K., and Chelsea H took 3rd place in the 4x800m relay. Shady Side took 5th place in the overall AA Team standings. 

Boys’ Varsity Track & Field 

The Boys’ Varsity Track & Field team finished their season with an overall 3-5 record. At the WPIAL Individual Championships, Sophomore Will N. finished 15th in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:25.16 and the Relay team comprised of Sophomore Ben H., Senior Edward D., Junior Jalen B., and Senior Deacon D. finished tenth with a time of 0:44.58.

Girls’ Ultimate Frisbee

The Girls’ Ultimate Frisbee team finished their season with an overall 2-7 record and third in the league. The team had a great recruiting year and looks forward to success in the future. 

Boys’ Ultimate Frisbee

The Boys’ Ultimate Frisbee team–up to Division 1 this year from Division 2 last year–finished their season with an overall 5-5 record and third place in the league. With the loss of several senior leaders this year, the team looks forward to rebuilding and hopefully returning to Division 1 next year.
