Shady Side Academy junior Maya Leyzarovich was named a New 2022 Carson Scholar, while junior Smrithi Shyam and sophomores Benjamin Bischoff, Veronica Koval and Patrick Sippel were named Recognized 2022 Carson Scholars by the Carson Scholars Fund.
Leyzarovich will receive a $1,000 scholarship award that will be invested for her college education, as well as a medal and certificate. Shyam, Bischoff, Koval and Sippel all previously won Carson Scholarship awards and will receive a pin and certificate to acknowledge their continued academic and humanitarian achievements. SSA will also receive nameplates for each student to add to the school's Carson Scholars Trophy.
The Carson Scholars Fund awards $1,000 college scholarships to students in grades 4-11 who excel academically and are dedicated to serving their communities. Previous winners of Carson Scholarships are eligible to reapply for Carson Scholar Recognition annually. Students must attend an accredited K-12 school in the United States. An interested student must be nominated by an educator at his or her school to be able to compete for a Carson Scholarship. Only one student from each school is able to apply, ensuring that each nominee epitomizes academic excellence. Carson Scholars must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 and display humanitarian qualities through community service. Scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of academic achievement and humanitarian qualities, without regard to financial need, ethnicity, creed or religion.
This spring, 2022 Carson Scholars will be honored at exclusive premiere showings across the country of the CSF original movie Carson Scholars: Heroes Among Us, which features the Carson Scholars. In addition, scholars will receive special recognition in front of their families and peers.
Congratulations to all five students!
