Three Shady Side Academy teams competed in WPIAL postseason games on Wednesday, May 16.
Baseball
SSA defeated Waynesburg, 6-5, in the first round of the WPIAL Class 3A Baseball Championship at Peterswood Park, in a game that was called after five innings due to rain. SSA led 6-0 after two innings before Waynesburg closed it to 6-5 at the end of the fifth. Then the skies opened up, and after an hour rain delay, the game was called. Led by Head Coach Jordan Steranka, SSA will face Avonworth in the quarterfinals on Monday, May 21, at 4:30 p.m. at Burkett Park Complex.
Softball
SSA lost to Neshannock, 16-0, in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A Softball Championship at Hampton Community Park. Head Coach Dave Havern and the team close out the 2018 season with a 7-4 overall record.
Boys Lacrosse
SSA lost to Mt. Lebanon, 8-6, in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class 3A Boys Lacrosse Championship at South Fayette High School. Senior Ben Ream led SSA with three goals. Head Coach Cam Thompson and the team close out the 2018 season with a 9-5 overall record.
