Two members of the Shady Side Academy Senior School Speech and Debate team have qualified to compete in national tournaments this spring based on their performances at district qualifiers.
Sophomore Max Minard will compete in Humorous Interpretation at the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Tournament in Washington, D.C., on May 26-27. Minard qualified for NCFL nationals by placing second in the event at the district qualifiers at Upper St. Clair on March 3, with a speech titled "Death by Public Speaking."
Sophomore Akshay Amesur will compete in Informative Speaking at the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) National Tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on June 17-22. Amesur qualified for NSDA nationals by placing second in the event at the district qualifiers at North Allegheny on March 10, with a speech titled "Building the Basilica."
Also, the Public Forum Debate team of seniors Nick Becker and Antoni Yotov are second alternates for the NCFL Grand National Tournament.
