DECA Club Members Win State Events, Advance to International Conference

Five members of the Shady Side Academy Senior School DECA Club participated in the 70th Annual State Career Development Conference (SCDC), held virtually Jan. 25-Feb. 5.

Senior Andrew Liu won first place in the Professional Selling event and sophomore Nichole Poltinnikov won first place in the Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling event, while juniors Crystal Ma, Ariya Tayal and Jacob Hintermaier were finalists in the Innovation Plan event. Liu and Poltinnikov will advance to the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC), held virtually April 19-23.

More than 2,200 students participate in the three-day state conference. There are 85 DECA chapters in Pennsylvania with a membership of more than 4,700 students, alumni, teachers and business professionals.

DECA high school chapters prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for college and careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Congratulations to the students and faculty advisor Jesse Robinson, and good luck to Andrew and Nichole at the international conference!
