SSA Field Hockey Goalie Competes in Chinese Junior National Championships

Clara McCormick in ChinaClara McCormick, a junior and goalkeeper for the Shady Side Academy field hockey team, was selected to play in China during the U-18 Chinese Junior National Championships for two weeks this summer. McCormick played with her club, WC Eagles, which is the No. 1 ranked field hockey club in the United States.

During the lengthy tour, which took place July 21-Aug. 4, the elite team played practice games in Shenzhen and competed in the Junior National Championships in Wunjin. Hosted by the Chinese Hockey Association, McCormick and the team also traveled to Shanghai, Nanjing and Hong Kong.

"I am very excited to have gained this international field hockey experience," said McCormick. "I have been working very hard in goal and was honored to be selected to compete in China. The Chinese players were eager to interact and taught us a great deal about their culture. It was an experience I will never forget."
