Sophomore Qualifies for Speech and Debate State Tournament

PHSSL logoMembers of the Shady Side Academy Senior School Speech and Debate Team competed virtually in the North Allegheny Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 9.

Sophomore Maya Leyzarovich placed fourth in Congress Super Session to qualify for the Pennsylvania High School Speech League (PHSSL) State Tournament, which will be held virtually on March 13-14.

SSA placed second overall in the Small School Debate Sweepstakes, thanks to the performances of junior Anish Kusumanchi and senior Jack Thornton (Parliamentary Debate), sophomore Nichole Poltinnikov (Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate) and freshman Otis Liu (JV Lincoln Douglas Debate).

Shady Side Academy will host a virtual speech and debate tournament with schools from Pennsylvania, California and Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 16.
