Shady Side Academy sixth grader Eva Friedlander was the leading force behind the holiday food drive at the Middle School, held from Dec. 7-18, 2020. Eva created a video to introduce the food drive as well as posters to hang around the building to educate her peers about food insecurity.
Although the food drive was cut short due to snow days before Winter Break, Middle School students and their families donated nearly 1,000 pounds of food during the two-week drive.
On Sunday, Dec. 24, Eva and Middle School math and science teacher Lauren Messner delivered the donations to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in Duquesne, Pa., where Maria Montaro, the food bank's community fundraising coordinator, gave them a tour of the warehouse.
Thank you to all of the families who donated and congratulations on leading a successful food drive, Eva!
