Senior School Convocation

Bart Griffith in the WSSA StudioOn Tuesday, Sept. 8, the first day that all grades were on campus together since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shady Side Academy Senior School celebrated the start of the 2020-2021 academic year with its first-ever livestream broadcast of the annual Convocation ceremony.

Normally, Convocation is held on the Senior Quad with the entire student body in attendance. Due to the county outdoor gathering limit of 100, that was not possible this year. Instead, underform students gathered in small "form family" groups across campus to watch the video livestream. The ceremony opened with the Class of 2021 processing (six feet apart) on campus past Memorial Hall as a bagpiper played, then the seniors moved to their form family locations to watch the rest of the ceremony. Academy President Bart Griffith, Senior School Head Trixie Sabundayo and Senior School Student Council President Jack Keating addressed the community live via video from the WSSA-TV studio in Memorial Hall.

A special thank you to the Senior School Film Club for making the livestream possible.
