Senior School Service Learning Club Raises More Than $800 For Homeless Children's Education Fund
Service Learning Club Raffle Fundraiser for HCEF

During the week of Feb. 22-26, Shady Side Academy Senior School Service Learning Club members and juniors Vanessa Han, Riley Doyle and Ariella Avigad held a fundraiser for the Homeless Children's Education Fund (HCEF). They sold custom-made stickers that will be produced in the Glimcher Tech and Design Hub and raffled off gift baskets, raising more than $800! They also encouraged community members to make monetary donations to HCEF online.

Junior Vanessa Han was the driving force behind the fundraiser. In the fall, she contacted and met with a representative of HCEF to learn more about what they do and who they serve in the Pittsburgh community. The representative, Brian Knight, zoomed in to a Service Learning meeting to educate our members about homelessness and how it affects children, and describe the work of HCEF in our community. Juniors helped Han run the fundraiser.

The Homeless Children's Education Fund's mission is to advance the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness, guiding them to be productive, empowered citizens.

Congratulations to the Service Learning Club and faculty advisor Lindsey Myers and thank you to all of the students, faculty, staff and parents who participated and supported the fundraiser for HCEF!
