Senior School Physics Students Create Windmill Proposal and Prototype

Students in Kelly VandenBosche's Physics II (Algebra) class created an initial proposal to add a windmill to the Shady Side Academy Senior School campus for renewable energy production. The students produced a scale rendering of the proposal using Google Earth video footage and SketchUP, then created a five-foot windmill that they used as a prototype to test wind speeds and power generation capacity on campus.

The project was an academic thought experiment, but the students may continue to research the idea in the next school year.
