Senior, Middle School Teams Compete in Carnegie Library Battle of the Books

battle of the booksStudents from the Senior and Middle Schools recently competed in the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Battle of the Books, a team trivia contest based on books. Across three age groups, teams of 3-5 students are given a list of 10 books to read, discuss and review in preparation for the Battle, which includes three rounds of questions on the books' characters, setting and plot.

On March 7, the Senior School Library Associates fielded two teams in the 9th-12th Grade Battle at the East Liberty branch of the Carnegie Library. The team of freshmen Sanjna Narayan, Giri Viswanathan, Nina Singh and Charlie Brunner won first place, while the team of senior Brian Foster, sophomore Connor Leemhuis and juniors Uma Gosai and Margaret Gerlach tied for third place.

On Feb. 21 and 28, seven Middle School teams competed in Battles at the Carnegie Library in Squirrel Hill. The Red Readers team of sixth graders Sasha Peris, Amanda Hulver, Tiba Alzubaidi and Smrithi Shyam came in second place in the 6th Grade Battle, while the Rainbow Wombats team of seventh graders Braden Crow, Prayag Vemulapalli, Ava Kronman and Isabel Brunner took fourth place in the 7th & 8th Grade Battle.
