Playoff Update: Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer and Football

Girls Soccer

Shady Side Academy shut out Bentworth, 10-0, in the PIAA 1A Girls Soccer Championship quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Mars Area High School. Senior Krystyna Rytel scored four goals for SSA, while junior Callie Davis and freshman Autumn Casey each scored twice. Junior Molly Skvorak earned the shutout in goal.

SSA will face Freedom Area in the PIAA semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. Mars Area High School. The winner will advance to the state championship in Hershey on Friday, Nov. 16. SSA is the defending PIAA Class 1A champion.

Boys Soccer

Shady Side Academy defeated Mercyhurst Prep, 7-5, in the PIAA Class 2A Boys Soccer Championship quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Mars Area High School. SSA took a 5-1 lead into the half and led 6-2 with 29:06 left. Senior Walter Navid completed a hat trick on a penalty kick with less than 10 minutes remaining in play.

SSA will face WPIAL rival Deer Lakes in the PIAA semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Mars Area High School at 8 p.m. (right after the SSA-Freedom girls game). SSA and Deer Lakes went 1-1-1 against each other this season, with Shady Side winning the most recent matchup, 1-0, in the WPIAL semifinals.

Football

Shady Side Academy fell to South Side Beaver, 32-16, in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class 2A Football Championship on Friday, Nov. 9, at Montour High School. Top-ranked SSA played without senior starting quarterback Skyy Moore due to an ankle injury suffered the previous week. Senior Dino Tomlin caught six passes for 88 yards and returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown in the final four minutes of the game. It marked the team's first loss of the season. SSA closes out the year with a 10-1 overall record.
