Playoff Update: Boys Basketball, Boys Ice Hockey, Girls Ice Hockey

Boys Basketball

SSA fell to North Catholic, 86-36, in the first round of the 2019-2020 WPIAL Class 3A Championships on Friday, Feb. 14, at Fox Chapel Area High School. Senior Mason Tomlin scored 16 points. Congratulations to Head Coach David Vadnais and the entire team on a great season!

Boys Prep Ice Hockey

SSA fell to Rothesay Netherwood, 5-4 in overtime, in the quarterfinal round of the Midwest Prep Hockey League (MPHL) playoffs on Friday, Feb. 14, at the Harborcenter in Buffalo, NY. On Saturday in the consolation bracket, SSA fell to St. Francis, 3-2, in an overtime shootout, then beat Lake Forest Academy, 3-1. Juniors Will Laychur (forward) and Jean-Michael Gilbert (defenseman) were named MPHL Malloy Division All-Stars and Head Coach Jonathan Johnson was named MPHL Coach of the Year. Congratulations to the team and Coach Johnson on this historic season!

Girls Prep Ice Hockey

On Saturday, Feb. 15, the SSA girls prep ice hockey team defeated Hoosac, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Women's Interscholastic Hockey League of the Mid-Atlantic (WIHLMA) playoffs at Rye Country Day School in Rye, N.Y., then fell to Portledge School in overtime, 4-3, in the championship game to finish as the WIHLMA runner-up. It marked SSA's sixth straight year playing in the championship game; SSA has won four WIHLMA titles, in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. Congratulations to Head Coach Kate Binnie and the team on an amazing season!
