PIAA Playoff Update: Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Field Hockey

Three Shady Side Academy fall sports teams competed in the first round of the PIAA state playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Girls Soccer

Fresh off a WPIAL championship, the SSA girls soccer defeated Everett, 9-0, at Hampton High School in the first round of the PIAA 1A Girls' Soccer Championship. Senior Callie Davis had a hat trick while senior Molly Skvorak made five saves for the shutout in goal.

SSA (18-1) will face District 10 champion Mercer on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Slippery Rock High School, 201 Kiester Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057, at noon in the PIAA quarterfinals.

Boys Soccer

SSA boys soccer fell to Mercyhurst Prep, 2-1, at the Hagerty Family Events Center in Erie in the first round of the PIAA 2A Boys' Soccer Championship. Senior Jack Naughton scored the goal for Shady Side. Shady Side closes out the 2019 season with a 15-4-1 overall record.

Field Hockey

SSA field hockey fell to Boiling Springs, 1-0, at Hempfield Area High School in double overtime in the first round of the PIAA 1A Field Hockey Championship, closing out the 2019 season.
