Middle Schooler Raises $1,500 for Kenyan Orphanage
In the last few weeks of seventh grade at Shady Side Academy Middle School, student Hailey Flaherty raised more than $1,500 for Hekima Place, a home for orphaned and vulnerable girls in Kiserian, Kenya.
The money was raised through a school-wide dress-down day and the sale of raffle tickets, which offered winning students the chance to "pie face" various teachers. The fundraiser concluded on Field Day on June 6, when a dozen faculty members received whipped cream pies in the face from the delighted raffle winners.
Thanks to all who participated!
