Middle School Teacher Performs in Pittsburgh Opera's Moby Dick
Jeff Gross

Shady Side Academy Middle School Music Teacher and Admissions Director Jeffrey Gross will perform in the Pittsburgh Opera's production of Moby Dick on March 17-25 at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh.

The opera is based on the famous novel of the same name by Herman Melville, about Captain Ahab's monomaniacal pursuit of a legendary white whale in his ship the Pequod.

Pittsburgh Opera will perform an exciting new production of the show, co-produced with Utah Opera. Gross will perform as part of the chorus.

Gross joined the Middle School faculty in 2011. He teaches the choral and strings classes and ensembles and also directs the school's fall play and winter musical. In 2015 he took on the additional responsibility of serving as the Middle School's director of admission. Gross previously taught at The Ellis School, Propel Schools and The Kiski School.

Outside of school, Gross is a frequent performer in various opera and theater companies throughout the Pittsburgh area. He has performed with the Microscopic Opera, Quantum Theatre, Pittsburgh Savoyards, Chatham Baroque and the Theatre Factory, and he also sings with the Pittsburgh Opera Chorus.
