Middle School Science Olympiad Team Finishes Third at Invitational

The Shady Side Academy Middle School Science Olympiad Team finished in third place out of 53 teams at the Dick Smith Memorial Invitational Tournament, held virtually on Saturday, Dec. 11.

The following SSA students received awards for their events:

  • 1st place, Bio Process Lab: Anna Litster, Chloe Wang
  • 3rd place, Food Science: Ethan Chen, Shaurya Gulati
  • 3rd place, Green Generation: Ethan Hou, Neyla Hinedi
  • 3rd place, Meteorology: Evan Xiang
  • 3rd place, Storm the Castle: Hana Singhi, Evan Xiang
  • 5th place, Rocks and Minerals: Claudia Iannetti, Hanna Singhi
  • 7th place, Dynamic Planet: Ethan Hou, Evan Xiang
  • 7th place, Solar System: Ethan Hou, Andrew Xing
  • 7th place, Sounds of Music: Neyla Hinedi, Evan Xiang
  • 8th place, Crave the Wave: Alex Bi, Shaurya Gulati
  • 8th place, Disease Detectives: Alex Bi, Ethan Chen
  • 10th place, Mission Possible: Neyla Hinedi, Evan Xiang

Science Olympiad is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, increasing male, female and minority interest in science, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers.

Congratulations to the team and its coaches, Middle School science teachers Bonnie Maxwell, Matt Brunner and Paul Waked, as well as Chris Erler.
