Junior Wins Honorable Mention in Carnegie Library Creative Writing Contest

Qingqing ZhaoShady Side Academy junior Qingqing Zhao won an honorable mention prize in the short prose category of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Ralph Munn Creative Writing Contest for her work "Kindred Spirits."

Zhao's piece, along with the other top-rated submissions, have been published in the 2019 Ralph Munn Creative Writing Anthology, a book of creative work distributed to all Allegheny County public and school libraries, and also published online. Read Zhao's piece on page 89.

The Ralph Munn Creative Writing Contest is part of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Teenspace, a welcoming neighborhood space where teens can explore their interests and build their own future without pressure or expectations. Allegheny county high school students in grades 9-12 were invited to enter original short prose or poetry submissions.

Zhao's short prose piece "Breakfast With Strangers" was recognized in the 2018 competition.
