Junior School Third Graders Participate in STEAM Showcase X Network Assembly

The Shady Side Academy Junior School Third Grade STEM team was represented among approximately 60 exhibitors at the 2020 STEAM Showcase X Network Assembly on Friday, Jan. 17, at Nova Place. The event was hosted by transformED, Allegheny Intermediate Unit 3 and Remake Learning and showcased more than 30 regional school districts, as well as student-run businesses and partners in higher education, museums, libraries, the tech industry and educational nonprofits. Hundreds of educators, students, regional leaders and STEAM enthusiasts attended the event to learn how the Pittsburgh area is Remaking Learning.

SSA third grade students Nadim, Rosa, Berend and Aven did a phenomenal job engaging others in challenges and reflections from STEM class. Third grade teacher Christina Blazin, science teacher Jeff McCarroll, and Technology Integration Specialist Jody Kokladas accompanied the students, who had a nonstop captive audience throughout the day. Over and over, people were amazed by the students and commented on the planning and connections of the STEM program and the emphasis on skills and the habits of mind throughout.

Congratulations to the students and teachers on an amazing presentation!
