Photo of fifth grade students with the geocache.Junior School fifth graders in Jeff McCarroll's STEEM class celebrated finding their first geocache in Frick Park on Friday, Oct. 9.

The students used handheld GPS units to locate the cache.

During STEEM class, the students learned about latitude and longitude and how GPS satellites help us navigate the world via phones, digital mapping software and even in their cars.

Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called geocaches or caches, at specific locations marked by coordinates.
