Junior School Fifth Grader Competes in International Jewish Education Competition
Aviv Dobzinski

On Sunday, March 21, Junior School fifth grader Aviv Dobzinski competed in the timed, online JewQ International Torah Championship.

JewQ is administered by Chabad Children's Network and offers students in grades 3-7 an introduction to various Jewish topics and a chance to demonstrate a mastery of material.

Aviv is among a handful of students who began studying with Chani Altein, co-director of Chabad of Squirrel Hill, shortly after COVID-19 lockdowns started in 2020. Each week, students meet with Altein via Zoom to learn about topics including Jewish history, the Hebrew calendar, Tanakh and Jewish law. Beginning last November, the first of three tests was administered, culminating in the JewQ competition.

UPDATE! The results of the international championship were revealed in a livestream event on June 6, and Aviv won a gold medal for scoring between 90-100% on the test. More than 800 students from 93 locations around the world competed in the virtual event.

Congratulations, Aviv!
