Junior Named to PMEA District 1 Honors Band
Grant Cummings

Shady Side Academy junior Grant Cummings is one of only nine clarinetists from more than 500 high schools in Western Pennsylvania selected to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Honors Band Festival. The festival will be held at North Hills Middle School on Nov. 19-21. Auditions were held Monday, October 4.

Cummings is the president and principal clarinetist in the SSA Senior School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Stanley Nevola. He also has received individual instruction from Mary Beth Malek, who is the principal clarinetist with the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet orchestras and also performs with the Canton and Wheeling Symphonies and the Civic Light Opera.

PMEA is a statewide nonprofit organization of more than 5,000 members, dedicated to promoting the musical development of all Pennsylvanians. The organization promotes and supports quality music education, learning and performance as well as promoting and supporting music education in schools and communities.
